What is Gynaecomastia?

Gynecomastia is an enlargement of breast tissue in males. The breast tissue appears bigger than
normal and causes embarrassment in males. Gynecomastia is most commonly caused by increase in male estragon levels that are too high or imbalance between testosterone and estragon levels.

When does it happen?

Gynaecomastia normally happens in males during Puberty (around 12-13 years): the enlargement is
usually bilateral and mild tenderness is present. In 90% of individuals, this breast enlargement will
reduce or disappear by 17 years of age.
Gynecomastia may also occur In old age (> 60 – 65 years ) due to systemic illness or some chronic
medications like Finasteride for enlarged prostate, Spironolactone ,digoxin, amiodarone, and calcium channel blockers, Cimetidine and proton pump inhibitors for peptic ulcer.

Who is a candidate for liposuction?

Candidates for liposuction should meet certain requirements to make sure their procedure is
effective and safe. Candidates who qualify for a liposuction procedure include:

  • Adults with an average or slightly above-average weight.
  • People who have firm skin with elasticity
  • People who have pockets of fat that don’t respond well to diet and exercise.
  • Non-smokers.
  • People with realistic goals for the outcome of the procedure

Gynecomastia symptoms can include:

  • Pain, especially in teenagers.
  • Swollen breast tissue.
  • Tender breasts.
  • Sensitive nipples when they rub against clothes.

When to consult a doctor?

Gynecomastia is an enlargement of breast persist for more than a year. It makes them avoid
situations where shirts have to be removed especially in swimming pools.

Before surgery

  • Basic blood test and hormone analysis testosterone estragon

During surgery

It is generally done under general anaesthesia. Through a small keyhole incision on the chest below
the nipple, a fluid (Tumescent) is injected into the breast tissue. Through the same incision, a
specialized instrument Power assisted Liposuction cannula is introduced and the fat is sucked out.
After the fat removal is done completely, gland is excised through a hemi circle incision is made along
with the Nipple areolar complex.

After surgery

  • Antibiotic’s and pain killers for one week
  • Compression garments for two months
  • After the surgery Compression dressing is advised for a period of 2-3 months till there is a
    shrinkage of skin. Regular activities can be done from second day onwards.
  • Vigorous
    exercises may be avoided for a period of 2 weeks
